The book revolves around the wealthy and privileged Sinclair family, who spends most of their summers gathered on their own private island. Cadence, the eldest grandchild of Harris Sinclair, is sick of her family acting like they are “almost perfect” and “flawless” when they are the exact opposite of that. Cadence usually finds comfort and spends most of her time with her cousins, until one summer during her fifteenth year, an incident happened that she seemed to not remember at all.
