Nineteen Eighty-Four is a work depicting author George Orwell's warnings against totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and total control of the lives of citizens. In the future of the year 1984, Thought Police are employed to destroy individuality and independant thinking. A low ranking party member Winston Smith pursues a forbidden love with a colleague and remembers what life was like before the Party.
