20th Century Boys (1999)

Kenji Endo earns money by running his own convenience store. One day, he finds out that one of his old friends, Donkey, committed suicide. He also hears of a new cult led by someone that goes by the name "Friend" and has become more notorious, which made Kenji thought that something is not clicking. Kenji uses some of the few clues his deceased friend left behind and realizes that this cult isn't something to belittle at all - they are certainly after him and his childhood friends, but what's worse is that the whole world also faces something serious and dangerous that only the friends have the way to prevent it from becoming worst.
